Du4Roux Jams at Ziggies
by JR Wolfe

Cherie DuFour has been burning up the blues stages of Colorado with her swampy brand of voodoo blues rock guitar for the past few years. Her unique fretwork dropping jaws every time she jams on a cover of the Alllman Brohers' Whippin Post or Creedence Clearwater Revivals Down in the Bayou. Her passionate vocals and imaginative guitar licks pushing the song beyond its composer's original melody into a rhythmic groove that casts a spell upon her audiences' ears.

An outstanding composer herself, Cherie has recorded and released her all original CD Front Porch in 2005 and is currently working on her second.

After playing in other peoples' bands in her native New Orleans, LA and in an all woman band in Longmont, CO, Cherie formed her own band, Du4 Roux. A few personnel changes later, the group is a powerful trio of outstanding musicians. Drummer Amy Shelley ads a bit of jazz and otherworldly rhythms to her strong blues backbeat. Chick Magnet, Glenn Tapia's groove riding bass adds a funky backbone to the Du4Roux sauce. Playing their original Louisiana Woman, Cherie's hair whips about as she gets lost in her solo, Glenn's body bounces and Amy's head bobs in satisfaction. The music they make together is real, honest and damn good.

Recently, in additon to the other club dates, Du4 Roux has started hosting an open jam every Wednesday night at Ziggies, 4923 W. 38th Aveue, in Denver. The evening typically starts out with a set by the trio. Then the stage is left open for any musician in the house, amateur or professional, to jam with the band or in any configuration of musicians. A few killer bands have also used this opportunity to audition for a weekend slot. This also give Cherie, a multi instrumentalist, a rare chance to play keyboards, drums, and bass onstage.

On Thursdays, Cherie hosts an acoustic singer / songwriter night at Ziggies. It's a free whelling pass the axe night of songwriters trying out their new tunes, singing their old ones and sometimes collaborating on some new songs.

I've spent many an evening enjoying the talents of Du4Roux as a band in concert, on their jam nights and at Cherie's acoustic shows. If you enjoy live music as much as I do, you owe it to yourself to go to one of their shows.

Subtle warning. You're going to get addicted to them!

Belvedere Blues Fest Review by M. Mueller

Belvedere Blues Festival
Colorado Blues Society "Holler"

“The annual Belvedere Blues Festival…I’ve seen lead guitarists in my time, but I have never seen any so good as Cherie DuFour. She made her guitar scream then purr. All I can say is WOW!..” -- M. Mueller

Women Rock the Night by Catfish Kray

Women Rock the Night event at Ziggies Saloon
Catfish Kray

This was the second annual “Women Rock the Night” event at Ziggies and it was a memorable event that shouldn’t have been missed by any blues fan in Colorado.

Cherie DuFour’s guitar work was and will be the high point of any night on any stage. I sat in attention at every note she played. This is one of the hottest young guitar players, male or female, and in any city and if you haven’t heard her you’re missing something. She makes her Les Paul sing and has some of the fastest fingers around.
